Our passion project
The house that now houses MENA was first documented in 1652. For centuries it was a farmhouse – a place of work, community life, and the passing on of responsibility from generation to generation.
We have been hosts for four generations. It all started with our great-grandmother Filomena, who began welcoming guests into the house. Back then, it was simple, natural, and personal – an open house where people were welcome.
With this new chapter beginning in 2026, we are consciously connecting to these origins. The name "MENA" is an expression of appreciation for Filomena – a subtle return to the beginning of our history as hosts. Not a radical new beginning, but a continuation of what has grown organically. It can almost be interpreted as an "omen" that during the renovation we found an old newspaper from the last century – addressed to Filomena.
Over the years, our business has changed – from a classic farmhouse to a farm holiday accommodation, and finally to the family-run guesthouse with six independent apartments we have today. What has remained constant is our joy in welcoming people and providing them with a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Today, we continue to run the house as a family. Margit and Johannes Mairhofer are the people you will primarily encounter at MENA – in personal conversations, when you have questions, or with recommendations for the region.
We are delighted to welcome you here.
Your family Mairhofer
